Sometimes When It Comes To Reviewing You You

are put an interesting position. I was contacted by a company from Hong Kong that it’s called Hex pens and Hex pens makes 3d printed pens that are kind of fancy. To the extent that the way they are shaped ink kind of flows through them and instead of trying to explain this. I’ll just show you the ink is actually in that barrel now if you are an avid viewer of my pen, my sorry my pen videos or if you have shopped around for interesting pens. You may have seen a very similar design in a company called additive pens.

I Have Reviewed Additive Pens.

This is quite a while back so when I was contacted to this review. I said yeah, but baby I’ve been here before I’ve seen this room and I’ve walked this floor so what exactly. is different in this pen If I compare it to the additive pen because this looks like the same thing and I had an interesting conversation with one of the two founders, and she pointed out that there are differences. So this pen like the additive pens is 3d printed at least the the barrel is it’s very nicely polished and you eye drop or fill it and then the ink is indeed in these I’m going to refer to them as grooves.

If You Dont Mind And This One

happens to be called the DNa because it’s basically a DNa molecule. This particular pen I don’t know how you can see that I think you can actually it does have these little rungs that a DNa molecule has which I have not seen on the additive pens pens sorry there are some other things too the proportions of this. Pen are different You can unscrew the end which facilitates cleaning and it has a clip which the additive pens that I have reviewed do not and I was on the additive pens website. I didn’t see any clips, but I could have missed that so in my mind. The concept of these pens is similar.

There Are Definitely Some Severely Overlapping Points

between additive pens and Hex pens think of the 3d printing think of the internal structure that ink just flows through but in my mind. There also were enough points in the hex pen design aspects that are different from those of additive pens for me to decide that this warrants a review of its own. I will point out and I do think that it’s important to point out because it matters to me Additive pens did this first that let there be no mistakes about. That having said that and with that in mind, let’s see I don’t have yeah It’s an additive pens here so I I can’t compare them for you, but if you’re interested. I would recommend you to watch that review.

Ill Try To Put A Link In

the description of this video that’s that let’s look at the parts of the pen. I’ll do a writing sample and I’ll tell you what I like about it what I don’t like about it let’s get started okay let’s talk about the hex pens DNa came in this box and around this box was a very cute red ribbon, but I it was tight tightly. So I had to cut it off but imagine a nice red ribbon that matches this red very well in there we have this little piece of foam rubber to keep things in place warning about the. body threads so the section threads that you have to unscrew clockwise which is interesting but I’ll come back to that We get an eyedropper which is glass. It’s kind of nice and there are some spare o-rings and a spare metal ring.

Which I Think Is Nice A Spare Part

is not a bad thing to have okay here. We have the pen and I’ll show you this right next to a pilot metropolitan it’s not a small pen. It’s quite girthy and it’s definitely a bit longer which I kind of like okay let’s cover the parts of the pan so on top. We have this finial which is clear it’s nicely polished material. It’s it’s very very clear which I think is very neat.

We Have A Clip Which Is

nice and springy. I really like that has a nice for me. I think design as well. Like I like that shape as I said the the whole pen is very nicely polished because you can really see the nib and feed in there and of course the downside is you’ll also see little ink splatters. The juice of the pen obviously is in the in the center and notice what I did there because the ink is put in by opening up the section, which again that’s a clockwise rotation.

Im Not Going To Do It All The

way now because I want to get ink all over my desk, but you eye dropper in the ink. There are two holes that allow you to um to sort of well. Yeah. I don’t have to say anything else do I drop her in the ink and then it will just sort of gently slosh down these grooves on the inside, which of course looks like a. molecule of DNa, which I think is very nice one thing.

I Will Also Say And That Is I

think a very interesting addition of this particular pen that the additive pens did not have is that this end also unscrews now I’m not going to do that because all the ink will just drip out but that facilitates cleaning considerably because you can hold this under a tap and you just flush it out as opposed to having to kind of fiddle with a barrel that is solid at the other end, and as a result it just becomes a little harder to clean it’s definitely. The additive pants can absolutely be clean, but I think in this case it makes it a little easier. This section tapers down and flares out a little bit and then you have a number six Jovo Nib in this case 1. 1 because that was my request, and then we have the the standard the oval feed and that’s pretty much all there’s to it for the pen and what I will say is. This is not a model that posts so you can’t really post it as you can see this is not a small pen, so I I personally I have no need to actually post this particular model Okay.

Lets See What We Can Do

as we write with it so we have here. I was told that I was just able to save that I was about to write Schaefer because the shape of redness sorry it’s the hex pens DNa. This is the 1. 1 millimeter italic or stub nib. It’s probably stubbed because it’s.

A Bit Rounded Off And The Ink

is shaffer red, which is a very nice intense red with these kinds of nibs. The italics it’s always fun because you actually get a lot of variation out of them. Just because the way they’re shaped and that lends a certain sequoia to your handwriting which I’ve always thought I’m so sorry. I’ll zoom out a bit I’m so sorry, which I think is always quite nice fast. Writing I don’t think anyone would ever write this this quickly that becomes a little bit more challenging because you really have to align the nip properly to the paper, which is not that easy to do at this speed, but as you can see the neb and feed keep up very well with the demands of the writing is it a super wet writer.

It Is Definitely Wet And I Have

found it. to be a very pleasant nib and of course, the interesting thing about this particular design is you need to have proper ink feeding into the Nib unit Right. This is not a traditional ink reservoir with a cartridge converter or with with a piston fill or anything like that. So it is interesting and it does seem to work pretty well because I haven’t had this pen run dry as I was writing with it now this being an italic nib or a stub nib. You can see that there is definitely line variation um, which is really quite nice and you don’t have to push down on it.

Its Just The Shape Of The Nib That

actually gives that line variation not the end yet let’s do a little bit of reverse writing, which is typically not very successful when you are dealing with a stub nib because. The shape of the Nib doesn’t have round tipping and this is no exception but again the advantage is you get these nice calligraphic effects which I think are very neat for everyday writing so I like that let’s talk about what I like and what I don’t like about this pen. What do I like what do I not like about the hex DNa pen and I think there is quite a lot to be said for it. It’s it’s it’s interesting I I like the DNa molecule design. I think it looks cool it’s a pleasant writer.

Its A Nice Size And All Of

that I think is great now we have already I’ve already kind of mentioned this before and I’ll mention it again. I do think we have to point out additive pens did it first right. I also think there are certain upgrades a certain. evolution and that you see here for example, that that you can open up that end cap that really facilitates the cleaning of the pen. For example, that you can so there are some o-rings.

You Get Spare O-Rings Which Is Nice.

There’s a clip which is nice something that I like is the proportions of this pen. I remember pointing out at the additive pens review and that could be just that’s a bit of a personal thing. But I found that pen to be relatively skinny and long, whereas this pen is a bit girthier and is also a bit shorter. So I think these proportions are very nice, but that’s you know your mileage may vary that that’s that’s a bit of a personal preference thing is there a market for this I think there absolutely is.

I Think The 3D Printing Is Very Cool.

I think. That appeals to people, I like this this look the ink just moving around through it is it’s it is neat um the level of polishing. For example, in this pen too is actually very good because whatever is clear is really clear and I just think it’s it’s very nice Jovo Nib it’s a good choice They’re solid nibs they write well. This is no exception um I think it’s quite nice Now the price for these is 149 us you can get extra fine through broad nibs and then a 1.

1 Millimeter Stub Nib.

They’re all steel as I said attention has gone into this the fact that you the the threads for the cap and the section are reversed so that you don’t accidentally unscrew the entire section as you unscrew the cap. It’s good thinking right with an eyedropper filled pen that’s always a a concern. I have um so yeah it’s well made 149 us.

I Think Thats Thats A Fair

price for what it is and how it functions. You also get the spare parts. You get the eyes of the the o-rings even a little metal ring that goes in the back should you lose that you get the eye dropper it’s a pretty complete.
